There is something about autumn that fosters a feeling of home and gives us a new appreciation for the beauty that can be found just outside our front doors.

From cooler nights to early holiday traditions, the fall season inspires everything from your morning coffee order to how you decorate your home. Add in 2021 color trend reports from brands like Behr and PPG, and it’s clear that we’re all looking for some more nature in our lives. Here are some nature-inspired home décor ideas for your home!

Plants

Let us start with the obvious. Plants are perhaps the easiest way to incorporate natural décor into the home. Companies like The Sill and others specialize in houseplants and care tips, whether you have a passion for plants or are just looking for 1 or 2 leafy friends to add to your home.

And for those of us who can’t claim to have a green thumb (or don’t have time for maintenance), artificial plants have become so realistic in recent years, you can enjoy some of the benefits of plants with beautiful options ranging from faux fiddle leaf figs to aspen tree branches or florals. We won’t tell.

Color

When we think of nature-inspired home décor, you may immediately jump to “earthy” and envision green and shades of beige. But fear not, lovers of white walls! You don’t have to paint your home to make nature-inspired décor a reality (though you definitely can), and you don’t have to stick to green and brown.

Get inspired by ALL the colors of the wind, and consider adding accent elements like an easy area rug, pillows, throw blankets and more in shades of snow white, red berry, goldenrod, night sky navy, or cinder gray. Start with what inspires you outside and go with what you love!

Paint

Hear us out. One of our favorite things about end of year is color forecasts coming in for the new year. Paint behemoths like Behr, PPG, and Sherwin-Williams have all conveniently released their 2021 color trend forecasts and share a common theme: colors inspired by nature. Since they’ve already done the work for you, go ahead and check these schemes out if you’ve been searching for that perfect accent wall color or new neutral. Materials

Some of our favorite décor materials come from the timeless outdoors. Thanks to the popularity modern farmhouse design in recent years, we’re all familiar with wood beams, stained furniture, and even copper roof accents.

For a smaller investment, consider adding some texture to your décor with natural materials like plush cotton blankets or wooden candle bases. Don’t forget the importance of light when thinking about ways to bring the outdoors in!

Scents

You know the happiness that comes from having all your windows open on a perfect sunny day? Maybe the smell of freshly mowed grass or lavender brings you back to happy days. Bring that feeling home even when it’s 105 or -5 outside by sourcing candles or home fragrance made with natural materials in some of your favorite outdoor scents. From local farmers markets to large online retailers, here are some of our favorite nature inspired scents for home right now:

We hope these ideas inspire you on your natural home décor journey! Share some of your favorite décor ideas with us and tag @mihomes!
