What's M/I Homes' building a house timeline? Follow these steps for our building/construction process from start to finish:

  1. Find a home you love
  2. Choose your homesite
  3. Design your new home
  4. Select your financing
  5. Meet your builder and start construction
  6. Complete your New Home Orientation and schedule a closing
  7. Refer a friend or family member!

That was easy! Here’s a little more about each step (and you can download the new construction schedule PDF!).

Find a home you love

At M/I Homes, we’re all about pairing you with your dream home, in your dream location. From our floorplans designed for the way you really live today to building our communities in locations that put you near the action while still being serene enough to come home to, we’re confident we have the right home for you. Browse our plans today!

Choose your homesite

Do you love the view of plenty of green space from your back porch? How about being just a quick walk away from the amenity center? Whatever suits your fancy, we’ll help you find the right setting for your new home. (Then we’ll make sure to take a new photo of you there before the construction starts! Share on social media with the hashtag #WelcometoBetter to show friends and family!)

Design your new home

With skilled Design Consultants and plenty of inspiring options to choose from, we’ll have you personalizing the finishing touches on your new home in no time!

Select your financing

You’ll never be alone in the financing process, especially when you choose our in-house lender, M/I Financial. We’ll help you get the best rate possible and guide you through every step.

Meet your builder and start construction

Especially if it’s your first time building a new construction home, we know you have a lot of questions—and that’s okay! By keeping you updated on your home’s progress and being easy to reach, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable with the process from start to finish.

Complete your New Home Orientation and schedule a closing

It can seem like a lot, but you’ll be in your new home in no time! Pretty soon you’ll be ready to unpack those boxes and settle into your brand new home. These two final items before getting you there will be quick and painless, especially with our team by your side!

Refer a friend or family member

We love hearing from our Happy Homeowners, and your experience can really help others who are new to new home construction! Photograph your home’s progress, keep a journal of each step, and tell your friends so they can be part of the M/I Homes family, too.

M/I Homeowner New Construction Reviews

The Post Family (Bluewood)

“Building in a neighborhood with multiple builders, M/I stood out for several reasons. First the value you get for what you pay is second to none. It was a no brainer for us to build with M/I. Second, the way M/I designs their floorplans is superior. Walking through other homebuilders models, it was crazy how much unusable space there was. M/I clearly put time and effort into designing beautiful, spacious, well thought out homes.”

Stephanie R. (Canyon Falls)

“[Design Center Consultant] was very knowledgeable and helped us tremendously with the design center experience! She had great design sense and was very organized! She was patient with us and really coached us through the process.”

Erica W. (Sutton Fields)

“I could not have been happier with the mortgage process. Everyone worked extremely hard to get us in for closing and worked quickly and efficiently to get us into our new home. Incredibly please with our experience with M/I Financial and would highly recommend them to anyone considering financing elsewhere.”

Christian M. & Phillip F. (Bluewood)

“Our construction manager went above and beyond for us time and time again throughout the home buying process and still continues to do so. We consider ourselves lucky to have had her as our construction manager. Never have I seen someone so well-informed, devoted, and meticulous when it comes to completing their job and doing the best they possibly can. There was not a single instance throughout the building process where I had a shred of doubt.”

Niraj K. (Auburndale)

“Overall it was nice experience, would love to refer to my friends. Process is very easy and convenient.”

The Mills Family (Auburndale)

“M/I Homes and their expert staff made our home-buying dreams come true! Top-notch customer service, quality workmanship, and a lovely home that we'll cherish for decades...we couldn't be happier with our experience! [New Home Consultant] was absolutely AMAZING throughout this whole process! [Construction Manager] and his team of homebuilders/contractors are absolute professionals through-and-through. The quality of the construction work on the home was (and is) fantastic, and other than very minor cosmetic issues (which were fixed before closing), this house is everything we wanted and expected. Honesty, integrity, AWESOME customer service, and a home that we're extremely proud of...you guys are the best!”

There, that wasn’t so bad, was it? If you still have questions or want more information about our home building process, I’m here to help get you what you need and Welcome you to Better with M/I Homes!
