8 Ideas for a New Home Gift

Order a pizza, make some fresh popcorn, and choose your teams: it's family game night!
Maybe you're in your game or media room, you've got the score pad and pen in hand, and you're ready to choose a game that's fun for the whole family. We've got you covered with this list of family games at home!
Card Games
Parents and grandparents might be able to whip out a few old—but still fun—card games to teach the kiddos! Here are some card games to play at home with family this weekend:
- A relatively new game that has players everywhere giggling while they enjoy its Russian-roulette style of speed, Exploding Kittens is a great game for the family, ages 7+.
- An old classic, you can't go wrong with Uno! Fair warning: the kids won't want to stop with rounds of this game, so get creative and try creating some of your own rules! Here's a multi-pack, just in case you've played Uno to death.
- Just have a good old classic deck of cards on hand? Don't fret! There are so many new ways you can use them for any age group.
Board Games
We've all enjoyed a great party game while sitting on the floor around a huge playing board. From Monopoly to Catan, there are tons of options out there. Here's a complete list of fun board games to have on hand to watch your kids learn to strategize through or beg to get out on game nights! Parents may even want to stay up and finish some of these after the kids have gone to bed!
Take the Family Fun Outdoors
If the weather is nice, you can set up some Minute-to-Win-It type of games in the yard! The kids can burn off some energy with a relay race while parents take a brief break on the lawn furniture nearby, or the whole family can divide into teams for kickball or something more unique like croquet! If you're learning croquet for the first time, print this handy guide to help with your setup. Both games are lots of fun with tons of people, if your yard is big enough!
Games for the Technologically Savvy
Especially if you're having a hard time peeling everyone away from their phones for game night, there are great options to use technology while playing:
- Have an Apple TV, PlayStation, or Xbox? Jackbox is a great investment! From drawing to deciphering who in the room is fibbing, you'll all love the variety of games this great package provides.
- It's only $0.99 in the app store, and it'll have you using your phones in a whole new way! Heads Up is a tried and true game from the likes of Ellen DeGeneres and parents alike.
- Play with friends and family anywhere with GamePigeon! Line up that perfect billiards shot or challenge your vocabulary, all over text message!
Free Games That Don't Require Any Equipment
When you really just need a great game for the family that doesn't require cards, phones, boards, or other media, try 20 Questions! Use this as a chance to teach family members about an important historical figure or type of animal.
I Spy is another fun game, especially for the younger kids. Help them practice their colors and shapes with familiar items found right at home!
There are oodles of free family games to play at home that don't require equipment, so gather together around something other than the TV on game night. You'll be so glad you did!
